Polk Co. Sheriff's Office investigates discovery of human remains

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of human remains.

The Sheriff's Office says deputies were called just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to the 4300 block of North Baseline Street in north Des Moines.

The caller says their grand-children were playing in a dirt pile on the property and found what appeared to be human bones.

The Sheriff's Office says detectives think the remains are old.

The Polk County Detectives and Medical Examiner's office are investigating.
