DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Iowa Department of Public Health is asking for donations of medical personal protective equipment as the number of COVID-19 cornoavirus cases in Iowa grows.
The Department says businesses or organizations with extra gloves, gowns, masks and eye protection should contact their local public health department or county emergency management agency.
"This is an unprecedented public health disaster, and stocks of personal protective equipment for health care providers are being used rapidly," says Ken Sharp, division director of Acute Disease Prevention, Emergency Response and Environmental Health.
Sharp says any organizations that have extra PPE supplies that aren't immediately needed should consider donating them to help those on the front lines the COVID-19 outbreak.
