Storms possible today in Quad Cities area, then freezing Friday

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - We're expecting a grab bag of weather over the next 24 hours in, with showers, heavy rain, thunderstorms, high winds, and even tornadoes possible today into tonight.

Then after a cold front plows into Iowa, temperatures will drop into the 20s overnight, and some parts of Iowa could even see snow Friday morning.

The National Weather Service says after wrestling with rain and thunderstorms today in Iowa, a strong cold front will move through and return the state to winter-like conditions for a day or two.

Strong northwest winds, gusting to 30 to 40 mph or more will be possible overnight and into Friday morning.

In addition, some light snow will be seen across northwest Iowa, where temperatures and wind chills will also be at their coldest/worst. Be sure to dress appropriately, including hats, gloves, and coats if outside or planning to be outside tonight, Friday, and even into parts of Saturday.
