Story County Sheriff's Office Closed Down to Public

NEVADA, Iowa - The Story County Sheriff’s Office has closed access to the public in response to the COVID 19/coronavirus outbreak. It's now conducting in-person business by appointment only, except for attorney visits, bail bonds and warrants.

The Story County jail has cancelled all visits from family and friends.

It's dispatch center is asking additional questions when someone calls, and deputies are trying to take most reports over the phone.

Story County deputies may ask to meet with people outside in the open air, and could be wearing additional protective in response to the virus.

The sheriff's office is also conducting business by mail, phone and through its website. Applications for weapon permits are online, and sex offenders are being asked to call-in for their in-person verification or registry updates.
