DES MOINES, Iowa - Two apartment buildings in the Des Moines area caught fire overnight Thursday Morning.
One fire was at Peterson Place Apartments in Pleasant Hill and the other was at Willow Park Apartments in south Des Moines on Dickman Road.
All 30 apartment units at Willow Park were evacuated and no injuries are reported. That building is especially old. “It’s always concerning with these structures out here," said Lt. Chris Bolton with the Des Moines Fire Department (speaking to WHO-TV). "The style of roof and it’s a non-sprinkler system. . These were built before code got in to be able to get the sprinkler systems in here.”
The Red Cross is on scene at Willow Park to help the residents who were displaced by the fire. The fire department says it'll be working shifts there all day long to put out hot spots and secure the site.
A Peterson Place Apartments in Pleasant Hill, crews had to rescue a person for the third floor.
There were also no injuries at the Peterson Place apartments, where officials think a grease fire was the cause..
