One Person Dead In Officer Involved Shooting In Clinton, Iowa

Police in Clinton, Iowa are sorting out the details after a deadly officer involved shooting Tuesday night.

Clinton Police Chief Kevin Gyrion said in a statement that an officer tried to stop a vehicle around 10:45 p.m. but the driver kept going.

Gyrion says officers chased it from Clinton into Camanche. The vehicle eventually came back into Clinton. According to Gyrion's statement, while attempting to stop the vehicle one of his officer fired his duty weapon, striking the suspect.

The driver was transported to Mercy One, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released. According to the statement an autopsy has been scheduled at the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner.

The case is being investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations and the medical examiner's office.
