State Park Campgrounds Now Closed

Iowa DNR

DES MOINES, Iowa - State parks have announced the closing of their campgrounds after Governor Kim Reynolds' recent proclamation.

The campgrounds will stay closed until April 30th, although Iowa State Parks will stay open for day use only.

The areas of state parks that are still open include: roads and trails; lakes, rivers and streams including shorelines, boat ramps and access points; and open spaces such as grassy areas.

Bathrooms, playgrounds, cabins, lodges and shelters and visitor centers and museums remain closed.

State parks are urging visitors to follow social distancing recommendations, avoid areas where people congregate such as scenic overlooks, bring hand sanitizer and stay home if they're sick.

All programs and events at state parks are cancelled through April 30th.
