Easter Brings Heavy Snow in NW Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa - Northwest Iowa got a sudden blast of snow on Easter Sunday.

The National Weather Service says the town of Ringsted reported 11 inches of snow.

Light snow into early May isn't unusual for Iowa or metro Des Moines, but Meteorologist Alan Curtis with the weather service said the storm that passed through northwest Iowa qualifies are rare.

Six-to-nine inches was reported across northwest Iowa as well as nearby South Dakota and southern Minnesota.

Curtis said people may have been surprised by the heavy snow after recent temperatures have been in the 60's and 70's.
