Calhoun County Sheriff Suspended, Hearing for Removal Set

CALHOUN COUNTY, Iowa - Calhoun County Sheriff Scott Anderson was suspended without pay on Tuesday after being charged with domestic abuse and assault on officers.

During a hearing Tuesday, a judge suspended Anderson without pay and named Deputy Jeff Feldhans as acting sheriff. A hearing to remove Anderson from office will take place April 27.

Anderson was arrested in Manson late Saturday night after being accused of pinning a woman to a bed and headbutting a Manson police officer. He's pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Court documents say officers arrived at a residence and heard a woman yelling at Anderson to get off her as he pinned her down on a bed and refused to let her go.

It took several officers eight to 10 minutes to remove Anderson from the home and place him in a squad car.Anderson is now free on bond. He been the sheriff in Calhoun County since 2017.

Anderson is also accused of sexual harassment and retaliation by Tami Swank, who worked as a dispatcher in the Calhoun Sheriff's Office. The Iowa Civil Rights Commission is reviewing a complaint submitted by Swank.
