DES MOINES, Iowa - Two of Iowa’s six regions scored by the regional medical coordination center are getting close to qualifying for shelter-in-place orders.
State health officials scored Region One that includes Polk County a nine, one-point shy of ten that would prompt a shelter in place order.
Region Six that includes Linn County is also at a nine.
Linn county has been the hardest hit area in the state from the COVID-19/coronavirus outbreak, with 265 cases and 21 deaths as of early Wednesday morning.
Polk County had 212 cases with six deaths.
Governor Kim Reynolds Tuesday said Iowa had the highest daily case count the state has seen so far.
She said state leaders were looking at plans for reopening businesses once it is safe to do so.
Reynolds said taking a regional approach was possible, but said governors in Midwest states would ultimately make decisions based on what was best for their individual states.
