Iowa sees new coronavirus restrictions as cases and deaths increase

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A section of Northeast Iowa is going under additional restrictions as the number of new COIVD-19 coronavirus cases and deaths continue to grow.

Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, and Dubuque are part of the region that covers Allamakee, Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette, Grundy, Howard, Jones, Linn, and Winneshiek counties..

Governor Kim Reynolds says, effective at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, restrictions will limit gatherings in that region to only to immediate family through April 30th.

Her proclamation continues to limit weddings, funerals, and other spiritual or religious gatherings to no more than 10 people.

It comes as the state reports 146 new coronavirus cases and seven additional deaths--it brings the state's death toll to 60.

Iowa Department of Public Health says coronavirus outbreaks are being reported in two more long-term care facilities in Linn and Muscatine counties. There are outbreaks in nine facilities in the state.

Public Health says 2.141 people have tested positive for coronavirus, while 987 people have recovered.
