DES MOINES, Iowa - Winter is making a dramatic return to Southern and Central Iowa Thursday.
The National Weather Service says to expect moderate to heavy accumulating snow for those regions throughout the day.
Some locations in Southern Iowa could see 12 inches of snow. Four far southwest Iowa counties are under a winter storm warning, while all counties south of the I-80 corridor are under a winter weather advisory.
Isolated higher snow totals along and south of Highway 34 could leave 10-plus inch accumulations. East North-East winds of 10-to-20 miles per hour may cause visibility problems.
Des Moines is projected to see 2-3 inches with snow showers starting after noon today.
The snow storm is expected to hit southwest Iowa between 5-8 am, and reach the Des Moines area by 12 noon or early afternoon.
