10 New Covid-19 Deaths; Outbreak at Third Polk County Long Term Center

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) reports 181 nre COVID-19/coronavirus cases as of Saturday, for a total of 2,513 positive cases statewide.

According to IDPH, 10 more deaths are reported, and 193 people are currently hospitalized. Polk and Linn counties, the counties with the highest number of cases, reported three deaths each on Saturday.

There have been additional 974 negative tests for a total of 20,434 negative tests to date, and 1,095 Iowans have recovered. 

A tenth outbreak has been confirmed in a long-term care facility, as six people have tested positive at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston. It’s the third outbreak at a long-term care center in Polk County. Nearly 50percent of all COVID-19 deaths in Iowa have been residents of those facilities.

The additional 10 deaths were reported in the following counties:

  • Appanoose County, 1 older adult (61-80 years) 
  • Linn County, 1 middle-age adult (41-60 years), 2 elderly adults (81+),  
  • Louisa County, 1 older adult (61-80 years) 
  • Muscatine County, 1 elderly adult (81+) 
  • Polk County, 1 elderly adult (81+), 2 older adults (61-80 years) 

Tama County, 1 middle-age adult (41-60 years)
