Study Says Iowa is 8th Worst State to Work From Home

DES MOINES, Iowa - A new study says Iowa Is the 8th Worst State for Working from Home

The analysis by WalletHub shows Iowa ranking 38th for work environment and 42 for living environment.

Factors used in the study included the share of workers working from home before COVID-19, internet cost and cybersecurity, as well as how large and how crowded homes are in the state.

Iowa ranked 49th for Average Home Square Footage and 35th for Households' Internet Access....although it was 17th for Internet Cost.

Other factors used in the study that ranked Iowa included.

  • 23rd– Share of Population Working from Home (pre-COVID-19)
  • 29th– Share of Potential Telecommuters
  • 22nd– Cybersecurity
  • 23rd– Average Retail Price of Electricity

The number of people working from home has sharply increased with social distancing guidelines in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to this pandemic, just 25 percent of all workers in the U.S. had worked from home, and only 29 percent were able to do so.
