In this time of social distancing, family members of Jaci Hermstad of Spencer, Iowa have created a new way of greeting others.
KTIV-TV 4 reports the greeting is called “The Jaci” and involves two quick taps of your hand on your heart.
Jaci has been battling ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, for more than a year and recently entered hospice care.
The greeting is also meant to honor Jaci's twin sister Alex, who died of ALS in 2011. On Monday some Spencer residents rode on horses to Jaci's home.
Jaci's friends showed their love and support for her through a back window of the family home. KTIV-TV 4 says a big name celebrity also reached out to Jaci on Tuesday.
"Hi Jaci. Hugh Jackman here. I just wanted to say, love you. And we're thinking of you. And I'm sending you all the love and strength in the world."
Actress and Hermstad family friend Caroline Rhea invited Hugh to send a shout out to Jaci. Friends and family are asking the community to #DoTheJaci by doing the heart taps for her and her sister.
