Iowa Food Bank Using Global Day to Raise Funding During Pandemic

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Food Bank of Iowa is using #TuesdayGivingNow to raise money for its services.

Giving Tuesday is a annual global event that's scheduled for December 1st this year. It's been extended to today, May 5th, as an emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Food Bank of Iowa normally serves 175,000 Iowans a month, but has seen a drastic increase in need during the virus outbreak. The non profit says its food and material costs are quickly mounting. Track the progress it's making on the #TuesdayGivingNow here.

The Food Bank claims 95.9 cents of every dollar donated supports its food distribution programs, with 1.1 percent going to administrative expenses and 3 percent to fundraising expenses. The food bank says it provides 4 meals for every dollar it receives
