CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- The City of Cedar Rapids is asking customers within a section of the city's southwest side to boil water for personal consumption.
Areas impacted include
Area 1: Schaeffer Drive SW East to C Street SW and 19th Avenue SW South to Highway 30.
Area 2: 6th Street SW East to J St SW and
29thAve SW South to 36th Ave SW
Officials say a rupture in a water main feeding Bowling St Booster station and subsequent C Street Water Tower caused a loss of pressure in portions of SW Cedar Rapids, which has created a potential for bacteria contamination to occur.
The city says residents are advised to take the following steps for added protection.
- Bring water to a boil
- Let it rapidly boil for at least 1 minute
- Allow to cool completely before consuming
Repairs are underway. Once repairs are complete, pressure will be restored, flushing of the affected area will occur, chlorine levels will be monitored and two consecutive sets of bacteria samples will be collected for analysis. The final results should be completed on Sunday May 10 at 1:00 pm at which time this order will be either lifted or extended.
