Six New Deaths As Iowa Passes 12,000 Cases of COVID-19

DES MOINES, Iowa - The state has now surpassed 12,000 cases of COVID-19/coronavirus with 414 new cases reported today.

There are also six new deaths from the respiratory illness, bringing that total to 271.

More than 3,600 new tests are being reported, which is more than Governor Kim Reynolds goal of 3,000 with the Test Iowa program in place.

The state says 1-in-40 Iowans have been tested for COVID-19

The state recovery rate is now 42-percent, as 5,249 people have recovered.

About 16 percent of the 77,792 total tests in Iowa have come back positive.

The largest number of COVID-19 cases - 2,368 - are in Polk County, which is the state's largest population base. There are about 5 cases for every 1,000 people in Polk County.

The largest percentage positive cases is in Louisa County, where there are 25 cases for every 1,000 people. A Tyson meat processing plant in Louisa County has had an outbreak of the virus.
