DES MOINES, Iowa - The father of an assault victim is asking for justice. Daryl Jones Jr. says the attack on his son was "just not right."
Twenty-two year-old Quan Jones was brutally beaten early Saturday morning while walking to his girlfriend’s house on the 5200 block of South Union Street. Police say the beating left him with non-life threatening injuries to the left side of his face, eye and hands. Officers are looking for three white male suspects, including one who made racial comments during the assault.
Daryl Jones and the Des Moines NAACP held a news conference Sunday afternoon, where Jones said the family is looking for justice.
Des Moines NAACP President Kameron Middlebrooks said the assault should be seen as a hate crime. Major Stephen Waymire with the Des Moines Police Department said the attack is being investigated as a serious assault, and the motive will determine whether it's a hate crime.
The three suspects have not been located. Police are asking anyone with information on the assault to call Crime Stoppers or the Des Moines Police Department.
