Gov Reynolds Promises Help After Foreclosures, Evictions Moratorium Ends

DES MOINES, Iowa - Governor Kim Reynolds says she'll be allotting money to help Iowans after her moratorium on foreclosures, evictions and debt collections expires Wednesday at midnight.

She says money from the federal CARES Act will be used to launch the COVID-19 Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Program to assist residents having difficulty paying their rent or mortgage. The Iowa Finance Authority will oversee the program.

Reynolds said eligibility information will be available soon for for those "who have experienced a documented loss of income due to COVID-19 and are unable to pay their rent or mortgage payment."

Residents are being encouraged to take a survey on housing recovery developed by the University of Northern Iowa.
