DES MOINES, Iowa – There have been 20 more deaths from COVID-19 in Iowa during a 24-hour period between 10 a.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday.
Over the same time frame, 290 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the state, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.
The total number of death in the state has risen to 520, while there are 18,792 positive tests statewide. Among the deaths, 234 were residents at long term care facilities, accounting for 45 percent of the total.
There are 18,792 positive case in Iowa. Of those, 10,570 have recovered. The recovery rate is 56 percent.
There are also 376 patients hospitalized with the virus, with 117 of them in ICU. Seventy-eight patients are on ventilators.
The state is now focused on Serology testing, which tests for anit-bodies in people who've recovered fro COVID-19. Of the 17,281 who have undergone a serology test, 1,834 have tested positive.
The COVID-19 cases reported by the Iowa Department of Public Health do not necessarily represent all the cases in the state, as other residents who are positive may have not been diagnosed.
