What started as a peaceful protest in response to the death of a Minneapolis man in police custody led to damage and arrests on Friday night.
A rally for George Floyd, who was killed in police custody on Memorial, was held outside the Des Moines Police Department early Friday evening.
Around 9 p.m., Des Moines police used tear gas to disperse a crowd of several hundred protesters. Damage was reported at Hilltop Tire Service and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa.
Several people were detained by Des Moines Police.
