Iowa 2020 Primary Election Results

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Tuesday is the Iowa Primary election.

Along with many state-level elections, party nominations for U.S. Senator and all four of Iowa's U.S. Representatives are now decided.

Here are some of the major races in Iowa:

U.S. Senator

  • Republican Joni Ernst had no Republican challenger.
  • There were five Democrats on the Primary ballot hoping to challenge Ernst in November. The race is being called for Theresa Greenfield.

U.S. Representative District 1

  • Democratic Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer had no Democratic challenger.
  • There were two Republicans on the Primary ballot hoping to challenge Finkenauer in November. The race is being called for Ashley Hinson.

U.S. Representative District 2

  • Democrat Rita R. Hart is the party's only candidate after Dave Loebsack chose not to seek reelection.
  • There were five Republicans on the Primary ballot hoping to challenge Hart in November. That race is being called for Miller-Meeks.

U.S. Representative District 3

  • Democrat Cindy Axne had no Democratic challenger.
  • There were two Republicans on the Primary ballot hoping to challenge Axne in November. That race is being called for David Young, who lost the seat to Axne two years ago.

U.S. Representative District 4

  • Republican Steve King faced four Republican challengers. The race is being called for challenger Randy Feenstra.
  • Democrat J.D. Scholten had no Democratic challenger.

State Senator District 22

  • After Republican Charles Schneider chose not to run for reelection, two Republicans were on the Primary ballot. That race is being called for Scott Cirksena.
  • There were three Democrats on the Primary ballot. That race is being called for Sarah Trone Garriott.
