IOWA - Former TV news reporter and current State Representative Ashley Hinson will challenge Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer for a seat in Congress this fall after winning Tuesday’s Republican primary.
Hinson is serving her second term in the Iowa House representing Linn County. She easily defeated Thomas Hansen in Tuesday's primary by a 78 percent to 22 percent margin.
She'll face Finkenauer who is running for re-election in Iowa's District 1. In 2018, Finkenauer, a Democrat, became the second youngest woman ever elected to Congress. She ran unopposed in Tuesday's primary.
