DES MOINES, Iowa - The state is reporting 345 new cases of COVID-19, along with 6 additional deaths as of 10 a.m. Saturday.
A total of 597 people in Iowa have died from the virus and 21,438 have tested positive for the virus out of 179,812 tests overall.
The state reports 1,060 people were tested Friday, a big drop after nearly 7,000 people were tested Thursday, by far the high mark for Iowa since testing for the virus began.
Buena Vista County continues to show the biggest concentration of COVID-19 cases based on population, and that number continues to rapidly grow.
Buena Vista County now has 5,585 case per 100,000 residents, up from 4,892 Thursday. By comparison, Crawford County has the second highest concentration per 100,000 - 3,200. Polk, the largest population county in the state, has 960 cases per 100,000.
The state has conducted 21,415 Serology tests to find anti-bodies in people who have contracted and recovered for COVID-19. There have been 1,934 positive Serology tests, accounting for 9 percent of those tests.
There have been 12,697 recoveries from the virus for a recovery rate of 59 percent.
The state is reporting COVID-19 outbreaks at 40 long term care centers, down from 41 Thursday. Deaths of patients from those centers total 300, accounting for 50 percent of the state's deaths.
Overall, COVID-19 case counts have flattened since May 6th, and have slowly tapered off.
The numbers for the state only represent COVID-19 figures compiled by the Iowa Department of Public Health. Unreported cases and deaths could make the actual figures different.
