The Des Moines City Council will review an anti-racial profiling ordinance and take input from the public at its next meeting later this month.
At Monday night's meeting, the council heard from community activists and Des Moines residents, some saying that the revisions to the proposed ordinance did not do enough to address their concerns.
Over 1,000 people attended Monday's virtual meeting that was over four hours in length.
A final vote was originally on the agenda, but it was withdrawn.
The city council approved the first consideration of the ordinance by a 7-0 vote. The second consideration of the ordinance, which will include more input from the public, will occur at the council’s next meeting on June 22.
