DES MOINES, Iowa - A new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll shows shows President Trump with a one-point lead over former Vice President Joe Biden in the presidential race.
The margin of 44 percent to 43 percent is essentially a toss-up as the survey's margin of error is 3.8 percent.
Trump carried the state by 9 points in his 2016 race against Democrat Hillary Clinton, and the Iowa Poll reflects numerous recent polls showing that previously safe states for the president have become battlegrounds five months before November's election.
Trump led Biden by 10 points, 51 percent to 41 percent, in a March Iowa Poll.
Still, the one point lead by President Trump also differs from other new Iowa Poll results that show Democrats with an advantage in the current political climate.
The Poll shows Democrat Theresa Greenfield leading incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Joni Ernst by three points, and more likely voters favoring Democrats over Republicans in upcoming congressional races.
The Iowa Poll was conducted between June 7th and June 10th by Selzer & Co. of Des Moines.
