Rep. Steve King on Statues Toppled: 'War on Western Civilization'

WASHINGTON - Iowa Congressman Steve King says the toppling of prominent statues along with the statue of a communist leader being erected is a war on Western Civilization.

King tweeted the comment over the weekend, after protesters in several states tore down statues of Confederacy leaders. His post included some of the pictures of the statues mentioned.

His tweet mentioned the names of famous people whose statues were torn down, before predicting Lincoln would be next.

"Statues of Jefferson Davis, Gen. Lee, Columbus, Washington, Jefferson, Francis Scott Key, Gen. Grant and Saint Junipero Serra all torn down while a statue of Lenin is unveiled in Europe," King wrote. "This is a war on Western Civilization. Lincoln is likely next."

A statue of of Vladimir Lenin was installed in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, by the Marxist-Leninist Party of Germany over the weekend

Lenin was a leader of the 1917 Russian Revolution and led the country until his death in 1924, and became a symbol for communism around the world.

King is a nine-term Congressman from western Iowa, who lost his primary contest June 2nd to Randy Feenstra. Feenstra will take on Democrat J.D. Scholten for the 4th District in November.
