461 New COVID-19 Cases in Iowa, State Surpasses 27,000

DES MOINES, Iowa - The state has 461 new cases of COVID-19, along with four additional death as of 10 a.m. Thursday. Daily reported deaths and hospitalizations have generally been falling over the past several weeks. Cases have been spiking lately with higher number reported in several counties.

Of the total positive tests reported, 25 percent had preexisting conditions, while 50 percent did not and 24 percent are not known. There are 27,062 positive cases out of 275,442 tests overall with a positive rate of 9.8 percent. The positive rate is up 0.6 percent from Wednesday

There are a total of 694 deaths from COVID-19 in Iowa. Seventy percent of the deaths involve preexisting conditions, while seven percent did not and 23 percent are unknown. Recoveries from the virus total 16,727 with a recovery rate of 63 percent.

There have been 782,864 COVID-19 assessments in Iowa, which amounts to roughly 24 percent of the state's population of 3.155 million.

The state reports 6,144 people were tested Wednesday. Governor Kim Reynolds has set a goal of 5,000 tests per day between the TestIowa program and the state hygienic lab. One in 11 Iowans have been tested for the virus.

The state has conducted 30,567 Serology tests to find anti-bodies in people who have contracted and recovered for COVID-19. There have been 2,235 positive Serology tests, accounting for 7 percent of those tests.
