Man Arrested After 8 Hour Standoff, Shots Fired at Poweshiek County Farm

POWESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa - A man has been arrested after setting his house on fire and getting in a standoff with sheriff's deputies in Poweshiek County.

The sheriff's office says it was called to a house about four miles southeast of Grinnell Wednesday afternoon, where family members said 49 year-old Dwaine Bauman had a gun and was acting strangely.

A nearly eight-hour standoff started when deputies arrived. That's when Bauman became aggressive, shooting his gun several times. He then set his home, a barn, two cars, and nearly 100 bales of hay on fire.

A witness says Bauman was upset about a proposed hog confinement in the area.

He's been charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon and three counts of second-degree arson.
