DES MOINES, Iowa - The state has 493 new cases of COVID-19, along with seven additional death as of 10 a.m. Friday. Daily reported deaths and hospitalizations have generally been falling over the past several weeks. Cases have been spiking lately with higher number reported in several counties.
Of the total positive tests reported, 25 percent had preexisting conditions, while 50 percent did not and 24 percent are not known. There are 27,555 positive cases out of 282,013 tests overall with a positive rate of 9.8 percent.
There are a total of 701 deaths from COVID-19 in Iowa. Seventy percent of the deaths involve preexisting conditions, while seven percent did not and 23 percent are unknown. Recoveries from the virus total 17,140 with a recovery rate of 62 percent.
There have been 790,533 COVID-19 assessments in Iowa, which amounts to roughly 24 percent of the state's population of 3.155 million.
The state reports 7,111 people were tested Thursday, a high mark since the state started COVID-19 testing. Governor Kim Reynolds has set a goal of 5,000 tests per day between the TestIowa program and the state hygienic lab. One in 11 Iowans have been tested for the virus.
The state has conducted 31,122 Serology tests to find anti-bodies in people who have contracted and recovered for COVID-19. There have been 2,253 positive Serology tests, accounting for 7 percent of those tests.
The state is reporting COVID-19 outbreaks at 26 long term care centers, down five from earlier in the week. There have been 360 long term care center deaths, accounting for 51 percent of the state total.
The numbers for the state only represent COVID-19 figures compiled by the Iowa Department of Public Health. Unreported cases and deaths could make the actual figures different.
