60th Knoxville Nationals Auto Race Cancelled Over COVID-19

KNOXVILLE, Iowa - A major auto race in Iowa will not happen this summer. The 60th Knoxville Nationals scheduled for August 11th through 14th has been cancelled because of COVID-19.

The racetrack which bills itself as the "Sprint Car Capitol of the World" expressed frustration over a limited capacity for fans in its decision to cancel the Nationals.

It said its final proposal to the state to allow roughly 12,000 spectators was not approved. The track said it would be limited to 7,000 fans in a facility that normally has a capacity of more than 20,000.

The Knoxville Nationals were to be sponsored by NOS Energy Drink and Casey's.

A scaled down World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event will take place on the same weekend in August with 7,000 spectators.
