State Auditor Says Test Iowa Program's Reporting Method is Illegal

State Auditor Rob Sand says the Test Iowa program is illegally reporting its COVID-19 test results and could be putting Iowans at risk as a result.

Sand's report shows that the Iowa Department of Public Health is fourth in the chain of test result reporting, receiving testing information only after it goes to two private companies. Sand says that's against the law and creates pointless risks.

He adds that state law requires certain test results to be shared with public health officials "immediately." The Iowa Department of Public Health says results from the Test Iowa program are still "timely", but Sand argues that's not fast enough to meet the state's standard of "immediately" sharing the results.
