Des Moines Pool Shuts Down for Cleaning After Positive COVID-19 Test

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Des Moines' Birdland Pool is closed for thorough disinfecting after a swimmer tested positive for COVID-19. Des Moines Park and Recreation says a person who participated swim team event tested positive for the virus.

The pool was rented out for the private event at the time. The city was made aware of the test result on Tuesday.

The pool will now undergo an extensive cleaning according to CDC and Iowa Department of Public Health guidelines. The city says refunds will be issued to anyone whose swimming lessons, lap swimming, or aquatic classes were cancelled as a result of the facility cleaning.

Two other public pools in Des Moines are still open, Nahas Aquatic Center on the city's south side, and Teachout Aquatic Center on the east side.
