Charity Event in Des Moines Celebrates Black Motherhood

DES MOINES, Iowa - Some expectant mothers have supplies after a non-profit gathering in Des Moines.

The group the Supply Hive hosted a Sunday giveaway at Evelyn K. Davis Park called "A Celebration of Black Motherhood."

Donated children's clothes, diapers, books and toys were available at no charge. Food for 400 people was supplied by Veggie Thumper and Palm's Caribbean Cuisine. A letter from the group said the gathering was created for all parents to come out and get items they may need for their families.

The Supply Hive started as an effort to give supplies to protesters during Black Lives Matter events. The group's Facebook page says its mission is to provide a space of nourishment through extraordinary times in order to build leaders in local communities. It's listed as a charity organization

The group says it plans to hold more community events.
