Indianola to Remove Native American Images From City Property

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Indianola Police Department has a new picture on its Facebook page after the city council voted to remove Native American images from city property.

The unanimous vote came Monday night after the city council received numerous complaints about the Native American signage.

The imagery has been used by the city for many years. Indianola Police cars prominently feature a Native American on their side panels. The the city will have to spend $27,000 to make changes. It's not known what the new city logo will be.

The Indianola Police Facebook page now has a license plate as its "updated profile picture."
