Polk County Extends Buildings Closures

POLK COUNTY, Iowa - Polk County buildings are remaining closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic, except for the county courthouse.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office announced on Facebook Wednesday morning that county buildings will remain closed until further notice to slow the spread of coronavirus and will reopen based on recommendations from the Polk County Health Department.

The extension of the closures comes one day after an approved mask mandate by the Polk County Board of Supervisors took effect.

The Sheriff's Office statement also said the decision to close county buildings was made to keep the public safe and to limit residents' contact with others amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Polk County staff are still providing services online or by phone. People are asked to call ahead to determine if an in-person visit is necessary.
