URBANDALE, Iowa - An Urbandale school is opening Thursday with all online classes.
Rolling Green Elementary has received temporary approval to bypass Governor Kim Reynolds order to open schools with in-person classes half the time.
The approval from the Iowa Department of Education lets Rolling Green conduct online only classes because of a rise in COVID-19 cases until August 6th.
There's not been any special approval for the rest of Urbandale schools, which are scheduled to start classes on August 25th.
Rolling Green is one of a handful of year-round schools in Iowa. It had originally planned to open with in-person classes, but changed course after consulting with the Polk County Health Department about a spike in COVID-19 cases. The school will have to come up with a plan forward when its temporary approval expires on August 6th.
The rest of the Urbandale district is currently schedule to offer three options when classes start -online only, on-site only and a hybrid of online and on-site classes.
