FORT DODGE, Iowa - The state prison in Fort Dodge continues to deal with a COVID-19 outbreak, as a third inmate has died from the virus.
Forty-eight year-old Timothy Louis McGhee Jr. was pronounced dead at the University of Iowa Hospital from COVID-19 and multiple preexisting medical conditions. The Johnson County Medical Examiner has conducted a review, and an autopsy will not be performed.
McGhee was serving a 15-year sentence for three convictions of Theft 2nd Degree.
The Fort Dodge prison has 59 positive COVID-19 cases among inmates and 14 among its staff members. A total of 277 inmates have recovered at the facility.
None of the other eight Iowa correctional facilities have any virus cases in their inmate populations. There are 23 COVID-19 cases among staff members at all nine state prison facilities.
