AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State Foundation is notifying donors that their personal information was involved in a security breach through a third party.
The foundation says it's been informed that its cloud-based fundraising service, Blackbaud, had been the victim of a ransomware attack.
The foundation says the Social Security numbers, bank account, or credit card information of donors is not stored on the cloud.
But information such as a donor's relationship with the foundation as well as names, date of birth and phone numbers was compromised.
The foundation says it was assured by third-party experts that the personal information was destroyed after Blackbaud paid the ransom.
It's apologizing to donors and is assuring them that no action on their part in needed.
