Doctors Group to Gather at State Capitol Urging Gov Reynolds for Mask Order

DES MOINES, Iowa - A group of doctors is holding a conference at the State Capitol Saturday.

The group "A Prescription for Iowa" will then present an open letter signed by nearly 300 physicians to Governor Kim Reynolds urging her to issue a statewide face-covering order.

The group's letter cites an Iowa Poll from last month showing just over half Iowans reported wearing masks in indoor public spaces.

Governor Reynolds has continually declined to issue a statewide mask order, saying they're not enforceable.

Several letters have been sent to Governor Reynolds asking her to impose a mask order or allow local communities to enforce their own, including letters from the Iowa Medical Society and the Polk County Health Department.

The Iowa Board of Medicine has not signed a letter endorsing a face mask order.

WHO-TV reports A Prescription for Iowa will hold its conference at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the state capitol west steps.
