Des Moines Mayor Limits Attendance on Public Property Events

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Des Moines has a new attendance limit on public outdoor gatherings.

Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie amended his emergency health proclamation Friday, saying all outdoor gatherings on public property must be limited to 250 people. This includes farmer's markets, festivals, parades, rallies and neighborhood block parties. These events also still need to be approved by the city and need to meet CDC guidelines.

While Mayor Cownie doesn't have the legal authority to require masks, he strongly encourages people in Des Moines to wear a mask when going out in public.
