DAVENPORT, Iowa- A man faces murder charges after the shooting death of a father who was attending his son's funeral in Davenport.
Police say 24-year-old Nuemonei Laster fled the scene at Weert's Funeral Home by car and was tracked down two and a half hours later. Police say Laster was able to get away during an initial car chase when he drove up to 25 miles per hour above the speed limit.
Laster faced a judge Sunday morning in Scott County and is being held on a $300,000 cash only bond.
He's accused of shooting 26 year-old Jeremy Shorter of Davenport, who was driven to a hospital in a private vehicle and later died. Shorter was attending his 8-year-old son's funeral who had died from cancer.
Laster is charged with Murder in the 1st Degree, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Eluding, and Interference with Official Acts with a Weapon.
Family and friends gathered at Centennial Park in Davenport to honor Shorter with a balloon release Sunday.
