Johnson County to enact face mask ordinance

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A face mask ordinance is going into effect in Johnson County.

The county Board of Supervisors passed a resolution requiring face coverings Thursday morning.

The ordinance requires everyone in the county to wear a face mask or covering in public settings, or any setting where social distancing isn't possible.

Failure to wear a mask will be a simple misdemeanor with fines starting at $105.

The ordinance could go into effect as early as Monday.

The city of Iowa City enacted its own face mask ordinance last month.
