Police Identify Motorcyclist Killed in Sunday Crash With Stolen Car

DES MOINES, Iowa - Police have identified a motorcyclist killed in a crash with a man driving a stolen car Sunday night as 51-year-old Des Moines resident Bounleua Lovan.

Police were called to the scene in the 2400 block of Martin Luther King Jr Parkway at about 8:30 pm. Officers arrived to find that the car involved had fled the scene of the initial crash and crashed a second time into a building a block away on MLK Jr Parkway.

The driver, who is a 52-year-old man, fled the scene on foot but was caught by police nearby. He remains in a hospital with minor injuries, while the car he was driving was determined to have been stolen.

Bounleua, who was driving the motorcycle, was given life saving treatment on the scene before being taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit has continued to investigate the crash. No criminal charges related to the crash have been filed yet.
