CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The overnight curfew put into effect in Cedar Rapids following the derecho two weeks ago is being lifted.
Cedar Rapids Fire Chief Greg Smith made the announcement Monday. The curfew was put into effect after the storm left significant damage throughout the Cedar Rapids area. Smith cited widespread power restoration throughout Cedar Rapids as the primary reason the curfew would no longer be necessary.
He advised residents to still be mindful of debris and other hazards during night hours.
Cedar Rapids' burn ban will continue indefinitely due to warm, dry conditions and the presence of potentially flammable debris.
