AMES, Iowa - Iowa State University is investigating racist criminal acts on campus in Ames.
University President Wendy Wintersteen announced Saturday that a staff member's residential storage room was burglarized and vandalized with racist slurs overnight. The act took place at Roberts Hall
She said the ISU Police Department is investigating the crime and will prosecute those responsible to the fullest extent of the law.
Wintersteen said their primary concern is the harm the racist criminal act is having on the staff member. She also expressed concern for staff member's safety and well-being.
In a letter, Wintersteen listed resources for support, including Student Counseling - 515-294-5056, Student Assistance - 515-294-1020, Thielen Student Heath Center - 515-294-5801 and the Crisis Text Line - text “ISU” to 741741.
Also on Saturday, an ISU student reported a racist message scratched in the dust on the windshield of their car. And a staff member in Welch Hall reported their residential storage room was vandalized with racist graffiti. The school condemned the act and says its Department of Residence is providing support and resources to the staff member.
