Ames School District Figuring Next Move After State Denies Waiver Request

AMES, Iowa - The Ames School District says it will work with it's School Board in moving forward after the Iowa Department of Education denied its request for a waiver to start the school year with a phase in of in-person classes ("phased-in hybrid delivery model")

The Ames plan does not meet the state's requirement for 50 percent of all classes to be face-to-face. The district says it'll continue to work with the Department of Education to explore available options.

Classes in Ames are scheduled to begin on September 8th. The district delayed its opening, as have several other districts. The Des Moines and Iowa City school districts also plan to start classes September 8th.

Des Moines and Iowa City have also had their waivers denied. Iowa City schools have already filed a lawsuit. Des Moines says it'll file to sue the state this week.
