DES MOINES, Iowa -- Passenger numbers at Des Moines International Airport are continuing to show some improvement.
The airport says July's numbers were down 65 percent from the same time a year ago.
"In May that decrease, compared to 2019, was 76 percent. So, we want from down 76 percent to being down 65 percent. So, some improvement there" says Des Moines International Airport's Kayla Kovarna.
She says they do expect to see fewer passengers in August and September as summer transitions into fall and leisure travel drops off.
"As school gets back into session we're anticipating a decrease for August, or to at least be flat, compared to July" Kovarna says.
She says the airport continues to see a steep decline in the number of business travelers as the COVID-19 pandemic persists.
Des Moines International Airport's passenger traffic in April, during the first full month of COVID-19 shut-downs, was off 96 percent from the same time in 2019.
