Iowa City Community School District Approved for Online-Only Classes

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The State of Iowa has granted the Iowa City Community School District's request to begin the school year online only.

Johnson county has experienced a spike in COVID-19 positivity rates over the last two weeks. As of Thursday, the positivity rate in Johnson county is 16.8 percent.

Due to rising COVID-19 cases, the Iowa City School District petitioned the state to be allowed to begin the offering classes exclusively online. The state granted the request Wednesday evening.

No decision has been made regarding a change to the start of the upcoming school year. The Board of Directors will hold a special meeting on Saturday morning to discuss the recent developments and decide on next steps.
